We spend ~90% of our time indoors — so, understandably, people are paying attention to how the spaces around them impact their health.

Boosted by covid lockdowns (when we all got to, ahem, learn to appreciate our living spaces), there’s been a rising interest in “wellness design”: spaces designed specifically around human health, well-being, and comfort.

Already, sellers and landlords are catching on. Zillow reports that property listings mentioning the following phrases have soared over the last year:

  • “Wellness” — up 15%
  • “Nontoxic materials” — up 55%
  • “Antimicrobial surfaces” —  up 44%
  • “Saltwater pool” (vs. chlorine) — up 35%
